Talented US karter selects championship team for step into open wheel racing

SASKATOON, SK (April 4, 2018) – Exclusive Autosport is primed and ready to return to Canadian F1600 this year with a full line-up of drivers, and the team is pleased to confirm that American karting standout Spike Kohlbecker will make his initial steps into open-wheel formula car competition with them in 2018.  Kohlbecker will compete in the Toyo Tires F1600 Championship Series in Ontario and the F1600 Super Series, which includes the Canadian F1 weekend in Montreal and the prestigious Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières. The 15-year-old’s Exclusive Autosport Spectrum 014 F1600 car will be sponsored by Margay Racing, Cfx Advertising, Mark Schwigen Photography and Lake Charles Park.

Kohlbecker and Margay Win Inaugural New Castle Motorsports Park 125

New Castle Motorsports Park held its inaugural 125-lap endurance event this weekend featuring 43 teams to take on the challenge. Temperatures were on the cold side, with a little bit of snow and high temperatures reaching the low 40s. Teams had to battle the track, the other competitors, the weather and of course the challenge of lasting 125 laps without any mechanical issues. It ended up being a young man’s race with 14-year-old Spike Kohlbecker piloting his Margay Ignite K3 chassis to victory.

Spike Kohlbecker Sets Gateway Kartplex Track Record

Spike Kohlbecker set the track record at the Gateway Kartplex on April 7th, 2017. His lap record time of a scorching 37.092 still stands as many other racers, and competitors have tried to break it. Spike still periodically gets lap practice at the Kartplex and continues to hone his craft by teaching younger drivers the ins-and-outs or kart racing. After all, to teach is to learn twice.
